This summer, students entering 6th-12th grades are asked to complete summer assignments for math and language arts. These assignments were designed by Decatur City Schools’ teachers to help students refresh skills they learned last year. Thanks to the generous donation of $30,000 from Indorama Ventures, Wetland’s Edge Environmental Center (WEEC) is able to continue a free, nationally recognized outdoor classroom experience for 8,600 students of Decatur City Schools.

•Mr. Allen C. Malone was the 3rd son born to Rev. & Mrs. John O. Malone, Sr. He is quick to admit that he was destined to be in the educational arena as both of his parents retired from the Monroe County Alabama School System. Upon graduation from high school, he attended Alabama A&M University where he received his Bachelor Degree in Business Management, his Masters in Elementary Education, and his certification in Administration and Supervision. He later matriculated to Tennessee State where he received his Educational Specialist Degree in the fall of 2005. Currently he is working to finish his dissertation for his doctorate degree.
•Mr. Malone has more than 20 years of experience in the educational arena. His journey has allowed him to be a mentor, tutor, interventionist, teacher, principal and adjunct professor. Mr. Malone has a genuine passion for student learning and is always eager to find ways to reach all students.
•Moreover, he is especially proud to have served in the Army National Guard and Army Reserves for a combined total of more than 22 years that included a deployment during Operation Enduring Freedom. In August of 2008, he retired as a Major. Finally, Mr. Malone has 2 sons (Dion and Andrew) that always demand his time and attention.
